Reasoning Behind Wimpy Change?

Toka says, 'in brief, what was the reasoning behind the wimpy change? I've been gone'

Kaige says, 'if you're affected by skill lag, you should have to wait it out just like at any other point in the game.'

Kaige says, 'since it's considered the time it takes you to do that action, it's not really fair to get all the benefits of the action and not have to wait around to finish it'

LadyAce nods her agreement with Kaige.

Toka says, 'hmm, ok, when was this decided to be the case? just recently? or have people felt this way for a long time? just curious'

LadyAce says, 'it's the whole reason for skill lag to start with'

LadyAce says, 'I think it's always been a little dubious'

Kaige says, 'people have brought it up many times in the past, but we never could pin point where in the code it wasn't adhering to it'

Toka says, 'ahh, ok'

Kaige finally tracked it down to where one if check had it, and the next one didn't.

Far-li-mas says, 'in the case of it taking that long to complete, then along that line of logic, should effects of the skill take effect when the skill lag ends too?'

Promethea says, 'but wouldn't it maybe be safe to say that someone with a very high dex would be nimble enough to complete the task quicker than someone with low dex, hence less lag?'

LadyAce says to Far-li-mas, 'it's 6 of one, half a dozen of another -- the difference is that when someone types kick, they expect something to happen right then, and they think it's broken if nothing does'

Kaige says to Far-li-mas, 'technically yes, but that would require MUCH MUCH more restructuring of how our code is set up now'

Kaige nods her agreement with LadyAce.

Kaige says, 'that too'

LadyAce says, 'things do queue up, but for initializing combat...people want things to happen :)'

LadyAce says to Promethea, 'we could definitely make all of our systems much much more like real life -- but each one of those changes has to be coupled with total rebalancing every other place. If dex were too weak, it might be a place to beef it up -- but as a standalone change ... it couldn't stand alone'

Myrella says, 'isnt the whole change a bit of overkill for the problem?'

LadyAce says to Myrella, 'what do you mean by "overkill" -- the solution is pretty tightly tied to the issue, it's not a major sized length of code or anything'

Myrella says, 'Well the problem is people using wimpy as strategy rather than to save their butts as it should be'

Myrella says, 'wimpy should work as before but have a fixed thresshold of your maximum hit points'

Herbert says, 'what if yer strategy is, oh god i have tiny hps please god let wimpy save my butt'

LadyAce says to Myrella, 'the idea is that it takes that long to recover from the action whether you want it to or not :) so being desperate to get out of there doesn't mean you get to finish recovering from a bash faster'

Herbert says, 'he might hit 50th in about 3 years if i do that'

Kaige says to Herbert, 'well, use skills, but if you're getting worried it might be better to not throw that last kick?'

Promethea says to LadyAce, 'even with a dex minimum for say a one round lag on wimpy as opposed to a two round lag for though lacking in dex?'

Myrella says to LadyAce, 'is that really the point of wimpy? or is it to save your life?'

Herbert says to Kaige, 'thats what i have been doin, its been workin out alright SO far, but i know my final hps of around 500 are gonna bite me in the butt a LOT of times'

Kaige says, 'it's to get you out as soon as you're able.. which means when you're done with your skill lag.'

Todd says, 'I always thought of wimpy as a point that you didn't want to fight past'

LadyAce says to Myrella, 'I think of wimpy more like a courtesy of the fight code, a way to configure in some automatic action. Like a trigger, not a free ride.'

Myrella says, 'typing flee does that'

Kaige says, 'it may not have been what it HAS meant...'

Goku says, 'ladyace i had a question, have you ever thought about creating somthing in the inns that allows the player to be healed? i mean it would save all that time calling for a mage for balm or surgeon for heal'

Herbert says, 'Ea! - we dont like to implement anything that plays the game for you'

LadyAce says to Promethea, 'if it made it better to have dex, then dex would be stronger -- but it doesn't need a boost, so....'

Myrella says to LadyAce, 'well I think the purpose of wimpy should be to save your bacon once a cetrain thresshold, say 20% of max hp is reached, skill lag be damned'

Herbert says to Kaige, 'then hes adopted the same philosophy hehehe'

Hatred says, 'yes, but some poor newb who is lvl 5 just attacked cian, no skill, just attacked, wimpy saves his life, phew thank god for wimpy he goes'

Hatred says, 'allright, my question is about repair and mend, why is it that whenever you fail a repair or mend, you have to automatically get an item to help fix it, tform is not like this, you could fail tform unlimitedly'

General Suggestions/Questions

o It would seem that the help file for the mood evil and the help file for the evil alignment are under the same headding would it be possible to make them slightly different so we can read them both?

To view the "helpfile" on the evil mood (or any mood or social for that matter) you can always use the VIEW command. The HELP command simply calls that as a short cut for you if it didn't already find a file on the topic. So.. just VIEW M EVIL will show you the messages.

o Tamakhet's desc doesnt respond to shortened, using "tama" says "They aren't here."

You can only use abbreviations on player characters, not computer controlled NPCs.

o It said "You skin the corpse and cure the pelt" and all I have is this hunk of fur. Why?

If you don't have the skin skill, with certain animals, you have a chance of ruining the specific pelt if you get the killing blow. Thus, when the corpse is skinned by someone with the skill, they get the default "hunk of fur".

o We should be able to send envelopes through the mail.

Mortal characters may only send NOTE type objects through the mail because of the potential for abuse.
