Herbert says, 'any chance you guys would ponder doing some housing code to make a system where the room limit of 50 could be exceeded by an additional 50 for like 1k more rent per day or something?'
Herbert says, 'or more specifically make outdoor rooms fit more..'
Ea! says, 'I think that builder-configurable item limits is on our todo list, but I'll make sure.'
Herbert grins evilly.
Herbert says, 'awesome'
Herbert says, 'cos Barts herb garden is awesome but not very useful while we're stuck on 50'
Ea! says, 'The problem with having all these active builders is that I have to code things to keep them happy!'
Ea! ducks to the ground.
Herbert grins evilly at Ea!.. wonder what he's thinking...
Herbert says, 'hehehe keepin ya busy! thats good good'
Kayos says, 'I got one about south america'
Kayos smiles happily.
LadyAce says to Kayos, 'ask away, then!'
Kayos says, 'were there dex check "death type traps" put in to lima and nazca?'
Kayos says, 'I walked in a non death trap and fell to my death in nazca, and somehow died in lima, not sure how.. thought it was a new death trap, but my equipment was still there 2 days later :)'
Kaige looks up into the sky and ponders.
Straussy says, 'i didnt think there was'
Kaige says, 'I can check the rooms on that make sure I didn't get the vnums in one off by an era'
Kayos says, 'well I dont think it was a wrong room, it said a rock bridge .. which might be dangerous.. but wasnt a death trap... and ps..should I be telling locations on this stuff or no?'
Kaige says, 'sure it was ancient and ended up in med? and not other way around?'
Kaige looks up into the sky and ponders.
Kayos says, 'the second seemed like a dex check type trap.. fail and you loose your footing.. I just wasnt aware of something like that.. but its all cool if they exist I know now'
Kaige says, 'both rock bridges look correct. no wrong vnums to switch your era on you.'
Kaige nods her agreement with Kayos.
Kaige says, 'those were new this summer and posted with the area updates'
Kayos says, 'ahh.. cool.. I look for death traps.. that one got me :)'
Kayos says, 'thanks for the info'
Kaige nods solemnly.
Kayos smiles happily.
LadyAce smiles at Kayos.
Kayos says, 'OH.. any of the non implemented spells in the works?'
Ea! says, 'Not at this time.'
Kayos nods solemnly.
Rush says, 'I know I had some stuff'
Rush says, 'I can't remember it'
Rush sighs at herself. What a sorry sight.
Kaige says, 'That will also be remedied next week!'
Kaige smiles at Rush.
Kaige says, 'We're gonna put in another channel/report box like bug/typo/idea just for Q&A question type things'
Kaige says, 'Sigrid will like it.'
Arenas Where Non-pk Can Fight?
Kayos says, 'I was wandering if there was ever an "arena" on this mud.. or its been thought of where non pk can fight without loosing anything just to test their mettle.. it might take make a ton of fun ..'
Rush says to Kayos, 'pkok does that well enough I think'
Kaige says to Kayos, 'and I've always hated artificial lines in the sand like that where one area is ok, and another's not for no real discernible reason.'
Kayos says, 'well in an arena like I was thinking of you dont loose anything.. just maybe gain wins and losses'
Kaige says, 'And we've always thought that if you are going to be pk, then you act pk while you're doing it. Much fairer to everyone all the way around.'
Rush says, 'you can do that with pkok'
Rush says, 'just agree to flee/calm at a certain point and call it a win or lose'
Kaige says, 'you could do that in the old pk system, too.'
Kaige nods her agreement with Rush.
Rush grumbles.
Rush says, 'lame that the only time i have ever won has been when I agreed to that tho'
Rush says, 'never infoed someone'
Rush sighs at herself. What a sorry sight.
Kayos says, 'hmmm havent been pkok yet... for the areas of ok thing.. I agree.. but was thinking of something like when you type ooc and go to here.. you might type arena join and your teleported to the arena.. which could be designed just for fight'
Kayos says, 'just something rolling around in my head.. heh'
Rush shrugs helplessly.
LadyAce says, 'well, I would try pkok first, the loss due to death isn't bad'
Rush says, 'I think pkok meets that enough that I'd rather see the immies working on the mythical skilltrees'
Rush laughs at LadyAce.
LadyAce says, 'we try to keep as much stuff in character as we can, I think.'
Rush says, 'it is too'
Kaige says, 'that idea came up a LONG time ago, nearly had one finished, and it was decided it was too out of ccharacter'
Kayos nods solemnly.
Rush says, 'but its worth it'
Kaige nods her agreement with LadyAce.
LadyAce says, 'is not :P compare it to death to a mob, it's nothin!'
SkullKrusher says, 'i think that would be too much like a "recall" mud anyhoo....'
Rush giggles.
SkullKrusher shrugs philosophically.
Rush says, 'so really and truly, are skilltrees ever going in or did y'all junk em?'
Ea! says, 'They're on hold.'
Rush nods solemnly.
Rush says, 'too bad'
SkullKrusher nods solemnly.
Kaige says, 'I dunno.. I think having a more stable mud to play in is much better than just dumping in more places to corrupt memory all over the place willy-nilly.'
Kaige shrugs philosophically.
Rush nods solemnly.
Rush says, 'true true'
Rush says, 'I amnever one to cry for new areas'
Rush says, 'more areas for me to feel dumb that i don't know my way around'
Kayos says, 'skill trees are what is talked about on improvements on the main mud page Q and A?'
Rush says, 'I am bad at learning my way around'
Rush giggles.
Kayos chuckles politely.
SkullKrusher says, 'i still get lost everytime i got to alaska :P'
Rush says, 'I still don'tknow how to get there'
Straussy says, 'fun stuff to do there'
Rush says, 'i am that way irl too tho'
Rush says, 'i have to have a map to go anywhere but like 5 places'
SkullKrusher giggles.
Rush giggles.
Kaige says, 'Yeah. that is what everyone is talking about when they mention skill trees'
Kayos says, 'thanks for being patient with my ignorance.. heh.. that homepage was my bible for awhile till I learned of the db'
LadyAce says, 'well, I wouldn't advise using legenddb, really'
LadyAce says, 'not that we can stop you. But we don't recommend it.'
Kaige says, 'they get a lot of stuff wrong too'
LadyAce says, 'you miss out on a lot of the fun of a game if you just follow the directions someone else wrote'
Kaige says, 'and it's frustrating for you when it's wrong and for us when you bug it as being wrong when it isn't'
Kayos says, 'I know.. and agree.. but its like a terrible addiction knowing its there.. heh.. and a lot being wrong leaves some of the mystery at least'
LadyAce says, 'break the habit :) you'll be glad you did'
Kayos says, 'heh.. I look at the db like a non supported site.. that is what it is, no?'
LadyAce says, 'it's not run by us, and we'd prefer it didn't exist'
LadyAce says, 'If that's 'not supported' then yes :)'
Kayos nods solemnly.
LadyAce shrugs helplessly.
LadyAce says, 'we try not to get worked up about it, but it really sucks to write a complex quest with all sorts of clues, and then watch people walk through it following some directions, and then saying they're bored :P'
Ea! says, 'Sort of like it's frustrating to spend hours writing a neat new spell to find that no one uses it because someone has written a bot to do it for everyone.'
An aura of heavenly light appears above Ea!'s head.
Kayos says, 'Well, I could sing the praises of looking for something different from all the other muds out there and the totally innovative concept of this mud, but I'm sure you've all heard that before many times *grin* That db cant take that away'
Kayos says, 'but I see what your saying'
Kaige says, 'Can never hear things like that enough'
LadyAce nods solemnly.
Kaige smiles at Kayos.
Kayos says, 'honestly, so many muds are kinda prepackaged, with some changes made to what the areas look like.. this is totally different way of thinking. Edzactly what I was looking for but "didnt know edzactly what I was looking for"'
Kayos says, 'main thing I was looking for for a long time was something with old west style mudding, and you have it all here'
Ea! says to Kayos, 'One thing you can do -- if you're really stuck on a quest and can't get any clues no matter how much you try, mention it on idea so that builders know where they need to add more clues.'
Kayos nods his agreement with Ea!.
LadyAce giggles.
Kayos says, 'I'm still doing the quests I worked so hard on with my first char.. heh.. trying to do by memory and the clues, which I did allot with that char. havent seen any bad or non existing clues.. you guys have done a good job on them everywh'
Kayos says, 'everywhere I've seen.. granted none of my alts are over level 25.. *chuckle*'
Kaige smiles at Kayos.
Kayos says, 'well it seems I came here to learn the concerns of the people that had been around awhile, got any questions I might think of answered. I thank you guys for the mud and your time, and a BIG thanks for the fun games and trivia you all p'
Ea! smiles at Kayos.
LadyAce thanks Kayos heartily.
Kayos says, 'put on. I dont wanna take all your time, if there are more people coming I'd be glad to listen or leave you allone of not :))'
Kaige says to Kayos, 'we're here for whoever has questions'
SkullKrusher says, 'any idea on eta of hell?'
SkullKrusher ducks to the ground.
Ea! says to SkullKrusher, 'Sometime this side of 'trees.'
An aura of heavenly light appears above Ea!'s head.
SkullKrusher snickers softly.
Be'lal chortles with amusement.
Be'lal says to SkullKrusher, 'don't worry, 200 years isn't really all that long'
SkullKrusher says, 'i at least wanna see it before i die :P'
Ea! says to Be'lal, 'You're more optimistic than I.'
Be'lal says, 'might see hell before you die...trees you won't, guarenteed'
SkullKrusher says, 'and im not young anymore:P'
Be'lal says, 'trees are kinda like world peace'
Kaige has created world peace!
Be'lal says, 'non-existant...ever'
Kaige says, 'nope.. have those'
Be'lal snickers at Kaige nastily.
Kaige eats world peace.
Be'lal says to Kaige, 'of course thats false, because I've worn a world peace on characters that pk'd constantly'
Be'lal says to Kaige, 'so not much peace really...'
Kayos smiles at Kaige.
Why Little Changes Not Big Ones?
Be'lal hastily pulls out an umbrella as it begins to rain.
Be'lal says, 'that was a dire fix that just had to happen huh :P'
Ea! says to Be'lal, 'It's an easy one.'
Kaige says, 'and took all of how long to do?'
Kaige says, 'it's MUCH easier to do soemthing small like that between other things instead of pulling out a larger project just to forget where you were on it again'
Be'lal chuckles politely.
Be'lal says, 'I just don't see the point, but whatever :)'
Ea! says to Kaige, 'I've only done that, what, five times on poisons?'
Be'lal says, 'its rp, its game, etc...whats it matter if the social says rain and its not really raining'
Kaige says, 'internal consistency is important to some roleplayers.'
Be'lal hastily pulls out an umbrella as it begins to rain.
Be'lal says, 'so now it says I just pull out an umbrella?'
Kaige says, 'why would it matter in pk if it said someone was sleeping when they weren't?'
Ea! nods solemnly.
Be'lal says, 'doesn't matter'
Be'lal says, 'noone pk's, so sleeping or not sleeping is irrelevant :)'
Kayos says, 'are there ways other than games to win prize tokens?'
Kayos says, 'err mainly meaning to get restrings.. I guess should be the question'
Kaige says to Kayos, 'writing articles for the LT is one way'
Kayos says, 'LT?'
Kaige says, 'the LT = Legendary Times. our newsletter'
Kayos says, 'ahhh ill have tolook that up :)'
Kinslayer says, 'Are there any foreseen changes in pk?'
Barabas yawns.
Kaige points at Barabas.
Barabas says, 'what?'
Kaige says, 'should be if he's stirring up trouble'
Kinslayer says, 'haha, other than him'
Kinslayer says, 'I mean codewise'
Barabas says, 'damn wussies'
Kaige nods her agreement with Kinslayer.
Kaige was gonna let Ea answer that one
An aura of heavenly light appears above Kaige's head.
Ea! says to Kaige, 'I was going to let you answer it.'
Ea! ducks to the ground.
Ea! giggles.
Ea! says, 'Since some of the changes just went to the imm staff as a whole earlier tonight, let us take a second to figure out how much we want to comment on it.'
Kinslayer says, 'When're the Infernals gonna pop up?'
Kinslayer says, 'and when are they gonna accept grendels'
Kinslayer grins evilly.
Ea! says, 'Okay, here's what we can say:'
Kinslayer nods his agreement with Ea!.
Ea! says, 'We're not going to be making any *major* changes to pkill. There are a few minor to moderate changes that are likely to go in next week.'
Ea! says, 'However, they're all still conditional on imm staff discussions.'
Ea! says, 'For the most part, they're based around trying to make pk clans more oriented towards pkill.'
Ea! says, 'Also, we're going to try to address a few of the abuses that people have complained about -- like being able to DT other people's items.'
Ea! says, 'We're not going to be able to address all of the abuses, because some of them aren't easily fixed by code and some of them we don't have a clear consensus on what is the best way to fix them.'
Kinslayer nods solemnly.
Kinslayer says, 'any hints on how you might change pk clans?'
Ea! says, 'Additionally, we're hoping to make pkill clans more attractive to people. I don't think that that we're going to get everything we'd like to get in by next week, and we're certainly interested in hearing ideas on the subject.'
Kinslayer says, 'oldstyle clanhalls?'
Kaige says, 'not gonna happen'
Kinslayer says, 'ok'
Kinslayer says, 'any amenities on that scale?'
Kaige says to Kinslayer, 'the reason I say that is you all get to choose your own places now, and those places are in game, not sitting off in lala land, but you can always make suggestions if you want a certain style house'
Ea! says, 'but again, don't expect any changes to the pkok system itself.'
Ea! says to Kinslayer, 'probably not quite on that scale.'
Kinslayer says, 'what scale then?'
Ea! says, 'Mixalydian.'
Ea! ducks to the ground.
Ea! says, 'I don't really want to comment on specifics since they're still up for debate among the immstaff.'
Ea! says, 'But again, I'm open to any thoughts you might have.'
Ea! says, ''cause there are one or two changes that probably are going to reduce the popularity of pk clans as a side affect of other changes we want to make, and we'd like to counter that.'
Kinslayer says, 'I assume that means you're going to make pk clans more hardcore?'
Kinslayer says, 'more oldstyle?'
Ea! shakes his head.
Ea! says, 'No -- as I said, no changes to the pkok system itself.'
Kinslayer says, 'less friendly?'
Kaige says, 'more pkill-y'
Kinslayer chuckles politely.
Kinslayer says, 'well that's a relief ;)'
Ea! says to Kinslayer, 'Reserve comments until you've seen the changes. You might feel differently next week at this time.'
Kinslayer goes EEK! at Ea! in distress - isn't Ea! an awful person for teasing?
Kinslayer says, 'would a person who loves being AA like the changes?'
Ea! says, 'Well, most of it won't matter one way or another to such a person.'
Kinslayer says, 'ah, so its about accepting/rejecting people?'
Ea! says to Kinslayer, 'You're really trying to get me to give you details, huh?'
Kaige nods her agreement with Ea!.
Kinslayer says to Kaige, 'oh, side note... I idea-ed a while ago about couponing houses... might pk clans be able to change the desc of their houses (within reason)'
Kinslayer chuckles politely.
Kinslayer is persistent.
LadyAce says, 'the same reasons for not allowing it for players would seem to stand for clans, I'd think ...'
Kinslayer nods solemnly.
Kinslayer says, 'even with significant immortal review?'
Kaige says, 'I believe the long standing and at least twice challenged decision was that houses could be suggested if you found somethign you wanted but wa=sn't available, otherwise the only thing that was changable was the title, with your name'
Kaige says, 'because of the significant immortal review that it would take'
LadyAce says, 'we'd rather spend time on making more interesting options of all kinds than fighting word for word through a paragraph'
Kinslayer nods solemnly.
Kaige says, 'anyway. looks like we're done here.'
Kaige gives a big hug to everyone in the room.
Kaige says, 'see ya later!'
Kaige waves happily.
Ea! waves happily.
Additional Topics Answered
This new section is intended to address some of the things that come up
repeatedly and also provide a place where players can submit questions via a
new feedback channel (Q&A) that will be installed with next week's update so
questions can be logged when they're thought of and the answers reported back
here.
Also, as you'll find below, some of the builders will have some feedback on suggestions and typos that get reported with some of their reasoning for why things are the way they are or won't be incorporated into the areas.
Check the description of the item when you drop it and look at it. A LOT of items will have clues that way.
Are you sure it's an item that the game considers to be ARMOR? Only items that are ARMOR type have MATERIAL types that the game recognizes. You want to use an identify object spell to determine the item type.
We consider this part of the discovery process and experience of playing a mage character well. Also, a stand-alone program would be far better suited to this and more flexible for your tastes.
We're happy to report that we FINALLY tracked this one down and it'll be fixed shortly.
Unfortunately, the code doesn't have any way to distinguish between single and plural objects at this point. We know that it's an issue but it will take ages to go through all of the code and change it every where. We might do it at some point, but it'll be tricky.
This is because there are two files in play when you write on a board. An index file that tracks which messages are on it and the individual posts. When you append to a post, it increments the index file, and then goes to add onto the individual post file. If you lose link during this process, it can't currently go back and fix the append count in the index file. We do intend to fix this problem, but it will likely take a rewrite of the current writing and board system to do so.
Yup. This was a hack done early on and never re-addressed to make mounts more desirable to use. No solutions are currently in the plans to change how they currently work.
You need to check out HELP SAY and use plead withthe say alts require you to use the preposition (to at with, etc) to direct them to another character.
VIEW SOC RAISE : Kaige raises a small piece of paper in a toast to you.
Have you tried to milk any that you've come across? There are at least two different areas that already support this. If you come across a cow you think is looking a little heavy in the udder and needs to be milked but you can't, point it out on the IDEA channel.
If it's FURNITURE, it doesn't add to your houses rent costs. See HELP FURNITURE. This is done to give incentive to actually PUT the items down in your houses instead of carrying them around with you all the time. Use the CATALOG command to make sure what is costing you money in your house too!
Common Bug Reports That Aren't
Yup, they sure do.
Generally, if a drink container has a spell associated with it, it also has a specific liquid type that is associated with it. It may or may not be the liquid type that normally comes in that drink container.
There are two guards that work together to open the if the other one's not there or otherwise ocuppied, he won't be able to respond to the bell ringing it won't open.
Nope, because it falls through to look if it can't find the target for read that way you can type in read poster or read sign in rooms that have them as extra descriptions and see them still.
The mobs in question states quite clearly that ther will give 1000 coins only to person who kills and brings the head. They also explain when you don't meet those conditions.
They may look like corpses, but aren't considered CORPSE type items by the game. You may want to take a closer look at them. Hopefully, we can change those from saying "The corpse of ____" to "A dead ____" to make things a bit clearer as well.
Unfortunately, with the sorting of the shopkeeper's inventory by vnum order to keep identical items with different short descriptions together, that isn't possible. Use PREVIEW and #.- to make sure you're going to purchase the correct item. Also learn alternate keywords.
This isn't always a matter of the mob having some super flag that overrides darkness and blindness. In this particular case, the mob was using fight skills without a target so they default to the person they're fighting, just like players! But if it feels wrong, better to tell us about it, and let us investigate than to ignore it!
You can TRY suggesting it to the builder via the idea channel, but if it's not carveable, there's probably a reason for it.
Unfortunately, because of the mechanics of those acts, it's unavoidable. HOWEVER, players can easily avoid it. Use the kill command on the one you want to sacrifice and only one will be sacrificed. And if you only need one bunny, only get one bunny to follow you.

Technically in the ancient Babylonian it would be Nabukudurriusur, meaning "May (the god) Nabu protect the son," or "May Nabu protect the boundary." With strings that existed on the LotP's orginal characters, we try to preserve them as they were, even with their inaccuracies.
That's probably not a good idea with all the string storage keywords floating around. You can use "lost" and "found" as keywords if "box" is conflicting with an object in your inventory.
Actually, they both are acceptable spellings.
Yup, means to neigh softly as opposed to whickers which is to whinny.
If you look at or ask Sanjaya "mun" he'll explain what one is for you, "A mun is a sage, a wise man, and a prophet."
Yes, Agnes is a woman's name. Yes, these mythical critters are women. Is their name Agnes? No. Think of them as ancient, mythological bag ladies. They carried all their possessions on their backs. Every seen the movie Labyrinth? The creature/woman who tries to get our heroine to stay in her "fake room with all her lovely stuff" was an agnes.
ma-te-ri-el n. The equipment, apparatus, and supplies of a military force or other organization.
This is intentional. The modernly created country of "Iraq" was created out of three distinct geographical regions, and the Iraq is one of them.

Not unless we have a medieval Ireland some time: Richard Ioyes, a Galway native, was captured by Algerian pirates while on a voyage to the West Indies. He was sold as a slave to a Moorish goldsmith who trained him in the art of metalworking. Released sometime around 1690 at the behest of the King of England, Ioyes returned to Galway where he created the Claddagh ring. Earliest examples of the ring date back to the 1700's and are stamped with the initials RI. Love (the heart), faith in friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown), are all symbolized by the Claddagh ring. Traditionally, the Claddagh ring can be worn three different ways. When placed on the right hand with the heart facing out, the wearers' heart is still searching. When placed on the right hand with the heart facing in, there are possibilities. And when worn on the left hand with the heart facing in, the wearers' heart is promised forever.
The town of Shillelagh for which those staves are known, wasn't built by the time that Tara is represented. They'd definitely be a good addition to a later era Ireland area.
