Location of Chan-chan

Sorry to be a boring old pedant, but I was wandering past the city of Chan-chan, and saw the description saying that it was to my east.
Now, according to my trusty Times atlas of history, at the time it was inhabited, the city was right by the shoreline itself.
This means, to be east of chan-chan, you have to be with walking on the beach, or on the water.
It had a nice big wall between it and the land to the north-east as well. Lots of big palaces and that. Its a pity we can't go there.

Mind you, compared to the weird position the Orkneys have found themselves in, this is a really piddling complaint. Which it is anyway.
