LadyAce says, 'We can put anything you want to talk about on to the agenda, but it seems like a good place to start if we begin with troubles -- anyone have any problems or complaints?'

LadyAce says, 'issues out there where there's something in the way of rp, or where your rp is running aground?'

Pflanzen says, 'yeah.. that whole pesky industrialist era'

Pflanzen spits on the ground.

Wyth laughs.

LadyAce giggles.

Darla says, 'Well, there is the ever-present difficulty of rp'ing on a mud where only some 10% of the players rp...'

ArchAngel says, 'my comment is somethign that would be for q & a so...'

Wyth says to Darla, 'thats all you need... you dont even need 10% to rp'

Israfel raises his eyebrows expressively.

ArchAngel says, '10% wow I wouldnt give that much even really'

Israfel says, 'Some RP can be invisible. And meant to be that way. Dismissal of something simply because it doesn't fit into preconceived notions...,' in a musical, silver-edged voice.

LadyAce says, 'I suppose it can be sort of discouraging, though, to interact with folks who don't want to be in-character'

Israfel shrugs eloquently.

Vidar nods his agreement with Israfel.

Darla says, 'It was a rough estimate, confounded by the people who say they do, have descs and backstories, then you meet them and they're talking about pop music.'

Wyth shudders.

ArchAngel laughs.

LadyAce giggles.

Wyth says, 'youre right'

LadyAce says, 'sometimes it's fun to try to drag folks in-character though, so you can play with them :)'

Pflanzen says, 'I always try to save the ooc stuff for gtell but keep says and talks for IC stuff'

Darla says, 'I find that only tends to annoy them.'

ArchAngel says, 'shoot I find it funny when some people drag me into rping... asguard brought me about it because of me name and that I was evil aligned..'

ArchAngel says, 'I do rp, only thing is I help people out with things and most dont realize thats what my rp is'

Vidar says, 'I usually make a question like, 'Vhat be dat?' or something similar relating to the topic'

Pflanzen says, 'it's more fun with the ones who'll play along with you though!'

Darla says, 'I've found if people don't rp, they don't. And if they ask me ooc questions and I answer ic'ly or not at all, they'll just switch to tells.'

LadyAce says, 'there have to be some good ways to draw more people in to RP, though. I think once people try it, a lot of them might like it'

Pflanzen nods her agreement with Darla.

Pflanzen says, 'NONOONO not forced at all... Ask them questions about WHY they're doing/saying things, that make them give a answer that makes sense to you in the world'

Pflanzen says to ArchAngel, 'yeah. We who like to RP should show the mud it's fun...'

Pflanzen says to ArchAngel, 'like instead of having to read so many stories in the LT about things that don't happen on the mud, tell stories about things that do more often'

LadyAce says, 'There have to be ways to bring RP more into people's consciousnesses tho'

Darla says, 'If people talked more in the game, like not spamming directions but stopping to say hello if you pass by someone on the way somewhere.'

Pflanzen mutters something about how picking a name other than your own and acting out a virtual life could be anythign BUT roleplaying... but that's just a personal pet peeve.

Darla says, 'If there were no tells or group tells, because too many people jsut sit around chatting with friends ooc.'

ArchAngel says, 'every month or so have a lil rping contest or something and to the ones who rp the best or just rp at first give them like a token or something to reward them and all'

Pflanzen says, 'heheh. we never sit around ooc. we sit and be lazy out in the game.'

Pflanzen says, 'but like I said, we OOC chitchat in group tells not says'

Vidar says, 'But who is to judge someone elses rp?'

Pflanzen says, 'everyone does anyway, some just aren't polite about it'

Darla says, 'right, if you did your chitchat ic, that would help bring rp out.'

Pflanzen says to Vidar, 'nothing wrong with dropping an ooc tell to let people know when you're amused by something they do either'

Pflanzen shakes her head.

Pflanzen says, 'chitchat about popmusic, whining about the weather/chores/bills./?? how does that bring RP out?'

Darla says, 'Sometimes I'll sit in an inn, and there will be like 5 people there, but totally silent, because they are all just chitchatting ooc. Nobody is actually talking in the inn.'

Vidar says to Pflanzen, 'Never said there was... I do it all the time'

ArchAngel says, 'ones to rp could be like the imms or have someone create a new char to test out the rp of a person or something'

Pflanzen says, 'oh. yeah it'd start visible conversation.. but wouldn't help RP I don't think'

Darla says, 'rp isn't just high drama. Most of it is just ordinary interactions.'

Pflanzen says to Vidar, 'I know you do.. I try to too.. just don't have the time to play a lot. =('

Pflanzen says, 'I think a lot of the non-rper's and new rper's don't get that too'

Darla says, 'that's why usually the char with accents win expies...'

Vidar says, 'My alt one an expie and he has no accent'

Tashanen says, 'would it be possible to have this sort of thing as a channel instead? is there some reason why it's not?'

Tashanen says, 'sometimes I'm interested, but I also want to get xp get gear help a friend etc'

LadyAce says to Tashanen, 'the advantage of having it in-person is that we're having a focused conversation, not doing other stuff ... I think it's hard to pay attention and contribute if I'm also doing fifty other things....'

Tashanen says, 'so while I may not be able to contribute, it would be nice to hear what's being said'

LadyAce says, 'we'll put a log on the web, for sure'

Vidar says, 'but ones with accents are easier to spot'

LadyAce says, 'It does sound like increasing daily, everyday RP would be a big advantage'

LadyAce says, 'sort of subversive, too -- people get into RP without really knowing that's what they're doing'

Darla says, 'That's what I meant. For non-rpers and new rpers, the people with accents are the ones they know are rping, so they vote for them.'

Vidar nods his agreement with Darla.

Pflanzen says, 'Encouraging people who auction stuff interestingly in character too.. or who ask for help doing stuff that way.. Not just LET"S DO PD.. but like Edric used to do calling for war against them'

Vidar says to Pflanzen, 'Yeah, it was always fun to see how he would call up the troops each tiem'

Darla says, 'I would also like to see some way that our actions have an affect on the mud as a whole.'

LadyAce nods her agreement with Pflanzen.

Mina says, 'it's hard to do things like that in character, I've seen more then one person who tried get slapped down so hard they actually left for a few days'

Tashanen smiles faintly. 'Well, but that's a choice you make when you decide _not_ to be obvious about roleplaying. It can be diverting to see how well your invisible RP works. It's harder than it looks. Because slips are noticeable.'

Darla says, 'It is rather difficult, since by the nature of the theme, we're just passing through history and not affecting anything.'

LadyAce says to Darla, 'as in, mobs responding to RP'd things more? or changing after an RP?'

Darla asks Tashanen, 'define invisible rp.'

Tashanen says, 'something that is patently different from the player'

Tashanen says, 'but is not visible to anyone who isn't a personal friend of the player'

Pflanzen says, 'I think just like you have to have a hard head and thick skin to be a PK you also have to have it to be RP... have fun how you want to... and say the hell with those that don't get it.'

Tashanen nods his agreement with Pflanzen.

Darla says to LadyAce, 'Well, some way it would count. Not just someone saying they are taking over klein, and the 4 people who rp with them going along with it and everyone else laughing.'

LadyAce says to Mina, 'I think we do have to stick up for people who try'

Mina nods her agreement with LadyAce.

Mina says to LadyAce, 'I've tried, but it typically ends up in a war of words on chat'

Mina says to LadyAce, 'which typically ends up with me saying the words I HATE saying..if you dont like it, turn the channel off or gag the person'

LadyAce says to Darla, 'that's interesting, I was thinking about that a bit after the Decara tinyplot. It'd be neat to make her have at least a few different responses to people because of what happened in the plot'

Mina nods her agreement with LadyAce.

LadyAce says to Darla, 'is that what you were thinking, or bigger than that?'

Pflanzen says, 'or if she had died.. and we got a new mob.. like her daughter who still fufilled the same functions, maybe slightly different personality... some diff responses'

LadyAce says, 'on the other hand, if people decide their RP is to destroy the world...I kinda wouldn't want to see us destroy it :)'

Mina chuckles politely.

Mina says to LadyAce, 'maybe for one day it rained fire '

Pflanzen says, 'doesn't it get destroyed every Friday?'

Mina giggles.

Darla says, 'Well, it could be done with a lot of small things together. More mobs that respond to different sexes and alignment.'

LadyAce nods her agreement with Darla.

LadyAce says, 'I think, RP'ish ways to interact with mobs would be really nice additions...'

Pflanzen loves playing with the mobs that have good responses.

Pflanzen says, 'both socials and spoken ones'

LadyAce says, 'like shopkeepers who you could buy from having conversations instead of just BUY. LIST.'

Darla says, 'LIke, I always hated when my child char got hit on by cowboys in SF...maybe if there was a way to set age if you want to play a child.'

Mina nods her agreement with Darla.

LadyAce says, 'there are a few that way exclusively, but it'd be neat if all of them could be talked to if you wanted to do your buying IC.'

Pflanzen says, 'heh. Women were SCARCE out there then'

Pflanzen comforts Darla.

Mina says, 'my child alt is forever getting hit on by mobs, and it's silly..cuz her rp is she is very young and I dont think we have that many sickos like that'

LadyAce says, 'that's a cool idea, the trouble with age right now is that it's so spell based'

Pflanzen says to LadyAce, 'do you guys have a way to set age below what you come in at with char gen? what is that.. 17?'

Darla says, 'Or even something more encompassing, like a way to have certain chars be leaders of areas.'

LadyAce says to Pflanzen, 'I think you're stuck at 17'

Mina says to Darla, 'now that would not be to cool..because we have hundreds of players and very few areas, it rewards the few and leaves the masses out'

Pflanzen says, 'How do you make sure the deserving people get and keep 'em though?'

Darla says, 'Well, it might be something where there is constant competition for it.'

Wyth bounces around.

LadyAce says, 'it might be interesting to have clans be focused on that kind of thing'

Pflanzen says, 'yeah but some of you're better roleplayers might not have the "might" to do something like that'

Mina says, 'how to compete tho?'

Darla says, 'I'd be afraid it would just become where imm friends get it.'

Darla says, 'Perhaps to please more people, some areas could be by pk, like with trophies, and some by rp, voted on or something.'

LadyAce says, 'well...favoritism is always a bad topic. I can only really speak for myself, but I hate going to the same folks over and over to play along with RP stuff'

LadyAce says, 'I'm thinking of maybe 3 or 4 times in my time here, though, where I felt like I needed help, and no one was giving it to me.'

Darla says, 'I think that sometimes, even if people don't intend it, their group can be perceived as a closed circle, and very few people will bother with begging to be let in.'

LadyAce says, 'because I can't really think of what we'd give people that would show that.'

Darla says, 'Nobody wants to ask for friends.'

LadyAce nods solemnly.

Pflanzen says, 'I always hate walking up to someone and saying hello or something along those lines and getting blown off.'

Darla says, 'I've run into the problem a lot of times that there are many people I can't rp with because I don't do preplanned rp.'

Pflanzen shrugs philosophically.

LadyAce says, 'I've had people complain about me not letting them in on my RP, and I've had trouble getting in to other people's.'

Pflanzen says, 'maybe it's cause I don't have a lot of time to play, so I don't see that as much... maybe it's cause I'm more on the fringe of things and happy to just brush against RPs'

Pflanzen says, 'but I also think something like what she said could come up especially based on the two RPs you're trying to mesh.'

Pflanzen says, 'I mean I can't see how working a full vampire into my lazing around in the sun would work well'

LadyAce says, 'maybe it's hard to see how to fit the vampire thing in, too, because people make assumptions that that's all there is to you?'

Pflanzen says, 'but... I don't usually have trouble coming up with an excuse to help kick some mob's butt with whoever.'

Darla says, 'That is another problem...since people rp such vastly different things here, it is work just to figure out how your char is going to react to this other one, and you never really get good interaction.'

Pflanzen says, 'isn't there a board for that sort of thing up here?'

Pflanzen says, 'maybe getting people to use/read that would help?'

LadyAce says, 'I think part of it is people having a whole lot of characters, and being in a lot of clans, it dilutes it down'
