Kaige says to Straussy, 'Attendance has been a little light, but then we haven't had a lot of controversial changes going in regularly again.'

Straussy nods solemnly.

McNugget says, 'But I've been beating up people so much about it I'm just too tired to ask anymore.'

Kaige says to Straussy, 'I think I did manage to get all the backlog of session logs up on the web now... not all are pretty and organized, but they're there.'

Promoting Outside Mud Circles?

McNugget says, 'Why do we not, instead of encouraging people to vote at what is basically a meaningless mud site, where votes are an indication of player spamminess, and not exactly quality

McNugget says, '... by critical reviewers. Why do we not INSTEAD..'

McNugget says, 'Encourage players to create good content and get links to it from there? THere are plenty of ezines to do - not just with muds - that like good articles....'

McNugget says, 'Whether fiction or nonfiction. Why not for those mini novelists who write in our LT - see if another place will take it?'

Straussy blinks at McNugget.

Kaige says to LadyAce, 'That one sounds like it's all yours.'

McNugget says, 'Link to legend from there! Recruit new players who are NOT mudders! Don't just draw from a small pool of the whattit community!'

McNugget says, 'Don't compete with everyone else for fishes in the same pon d... branch out your poooooond.'

Kaige says, 'And I'm glad to see Legend's name out there. But beyond that. I don't see any problem with people going out and submitting their stuff to those kinds of places, but I WOULD feel really uncomfortable doing it FOR them'

McNugget says, 'I never said do it FOR them.'

McNugget says, 'I said encourage them TO do it.'

McNugget shrugs helplessly.

McNugget says, 'Whatever!'

Kaige says, 'well, that's why their copyright remains with them. so they can do with it what they want.'

McNugget is completely boggled.

McNugget says, 'I just said encourage them TO do it - it's possible that it doesn't occur to people. Oh well. I guess I'll take the official line and bugger off then.'

Kaige says, 'why is that a boggling concept?'

McNugget says, 'Because I don't think we're on the same brainwaves of thought at all.'

Kaige says, 'well, do you have any suggestions on where exactly to encourage them to do so? Seems like it would make a great piece to write up and submit to the LT to me'

Kaige says, 'but you might want to run it past LA and/or Sandra, just to make sure it fits with PR's ideas.'

McNugget says, 'Actually I've gone out looking, had an article accepted by 3 or 4 places and am linking it to legend. It is EASY.'

McNugget says, 'And I have run it past them.'

McNugget snickers softly.

McNugget says, 'This is why I'm wondering why it doesn't happen more often.'

McNugget says, 'Or at least.'

McNugget says, 'If it does, why is it not promoted!'

LadyAce says, 'I think you're the first person to suggest it!'

Vanion says, 'the idea was a elabortaion of wary agg basically, like an option of stances, where each one has a disadvantage and advantage persay'

Vanion says, 'for example wary 2 being shield heavy, where the combat stance is like an old roman soldier with long shield in front'

Vanion says, 'and the shiled slot in that postion would be damaged more oftern like'

Vanion says, 'secondary weapon damage rather'

Vanion says, 'a change of secondary weapon damage instead of going off like now in rounds, to be associated with a limb and skill'

Vanion says, 'for example greaves would do 60-whatever damage when elbowing'

Vanion says, 'talons-kick'

Huginn says, 'hmm no but there will be several changes to secondaries to limit their impact'

Vanion says, 'yea i mentioned how the overall max dam a char is at now is getting crazy'

Kaige says, 'essentially making them sort of skilltools that would automatically be invoked with the skill use instead of having to use USE to invoke them'

Vanion says, 'which is where the alternative idea came from'

Vanion says, 'so instead of attacking with all of them you can strategically pick which one each round'

Vanion says, 'ok lemme start typing this super crazy idea i had back when the idea's for housing were just being cooked up'

Vanion says, 'the idea is based on, for example building a multi room castle in the mud, well you need people to guard this castle and such, so like in the same way you buy rooms and things, you can hire mobs, soldier, sentrys, phalanx's, all depen'

Vanion says, 'on the area and such'

Vanion says, 'so if two clans were at war, the gm could have a command to make the sentry mobs agg to all (blank) clan members'

Kaige says, 'there's plans for it, but requires the pets and hirelings code that's mentioned in previous logs. No eta on it. Sorry. =('

Vanion says, 'ahhh interesting, cool to know'

LadyAce says, 'sure would be great :) someday, I hope!'

Vanion says, 'but that has alot of potential for rp to pk clans, to have so much fun with'

LadyAce says, 'Rufus's assessment, back in the day...if I recall correctly...was that it was pretty hard'

Vanion says, 'and yes hug code wise that would be a load im sure'

LadyAce says, 'so it's not a lack of us agreeing it'd be fun, for sure'

Vanion says, 'yea well it would be basically writing a strategy type code along on top of everything else'

Vanion says, 'which would probably never be able to work, but most coding problems have elusive more efficient solutions'

Kaige says to Vanion, 'Maybe not in the exact way you described, but you could easily set up guard mobs, they'd just guard from everyone or potentially established clan enemies.'

Vanion nods solemnly.

Vanion says, 'one conflict may be the amount of imm-like commands given to the gm's which might not be an issue at all'

Naval Combat/Grouped Mobs?

Straussy says, 'i would still like to see some form of combat taken to the seas'

Straussy says, 'any plans on taking combat either pc v. pc or pc v. npc to the seas? ie ship battles'

Kaige says to Straussy, 'It's technically possible now, but I don't think any of the builders have really explored the possibilities with group boats.'

Straussy looks up into the sky and ponders.

Straussy says, 'was just thinking, it would be cool to have duties'

Straussy says, 'lookout, navigator, shooter, reloader, etc'

Kaige says to Straussy, 'You mean have a whole big moving ship made from several rooms, not just a vehicle type deal.'

Kaige nods solemnly.

Kaige says, 'have you played with the pirates on the ship at dock in tortuga?'

Straussy says, 'and if starboard side is hit, then whoever is there is effect as is the ship'

Straussy says, 'have not had the chance, no'

Kaige says, 'can't go ship to ship with them, but they do have different roles as they fight'

Kaige nods solemnly.

Kaige says, 'would love to have more feedback on them and how they interact as a group of their own.'

Vanion says, 'is there anyway that maybe a little more accurate hints or wording can be used in the updates'

Vanion says, 'like instead of saying, new mobs added alone, which i know its not always that cut and dry but instead maybe even mix up some riddle like wording in it'

Kaige says, 'Hmmm.. I think that one tends to vary with who writes the summary and how varied the additions are.'

Vanion says, 'so if new a new cook was added in crusades, you could say , a new mob thats handy with blah blah blah has been implemented'

Vanion says, 'or even if u want people to research to learn about the conecept your doing, you could say the victor of the battle of bla bla has been added'

Kaige says, 'a lot of times, the only thing Cheyla and I have to work with from the commit logs is "new mobs added" =) But we're always trying to encourage the builders to be more verbose about things like that'

Vanion says, 'yea dont take me as arrogant i know each sentance comes frm yer free time'

LadyAce says, 'local boards can be a place to stick that stuff too'

Kaige says, 'but like I said, sometimes if there's a large array of stuff added, we do try to describe updates without making them so long that people won't read them.'

Vanion says, 'would it be possible for like a level of level increase or something like that? so instead of be careful, it could have diff levels and messages like the con command'

LadyAce says, 'I know I stash stuff on a local board post when I've made a lot of little dinky changes that I think no one will care about....and my dinky change might be someone's lifeline, it's hard to say :) so sometimes things go there'

Vanion says, 'oh we care its just ive found myself exploring for a really really long time to no avail on new things'

Kaige says, 'well, those "be careful" messages are basically, a red flag to be read as "things have changed here, approach with caution"'

Vanion says, 'is it possible, -or- plausible, to ever have items class based sometime'

Kaige says, 'the basics work (and umm.. have for a while) but a good method for looping through them so it wouldn't lag the mud and a way to make them apply to the item after being rent out with and brought back into the game aren't there.'

Vanion says, 'so instead of well, i guess this is basically working off assumptions, but now for example you could make a sword called sword1'

Vanion says, 'and sword1 has a special spell that it casts that isnt like any current spell'

Vanion says, 'so a custom message and effects are set'

Vanion says, 'like that'

Kaige says, 'ahh.. that's different than "object acts" that just takes putting a builder defined spell on an object.'

Vanion says, 'oh so as usual an assumption was wrong'

Kaige says, 'when I think of object acts, i think of Aladdin's lamp... where you could take it and rub it anywhere and it'd work.. not just in say.. 12 rooms'

Kaige says, 'I had Sadist and Charity's hot tub reacting to turning the knob on it... and I had some semi-working fireworks at one point.'

Kaige says, 'the hot tub could easily be done in room acts since it's a fairly stationary item... but the fire works were cool'

Kaige says, 'made it apparent that explosives were way under coded'

Kaige says, 'ok. I think we're about done here then? I need to get the monsters fed since Ptah's in Frisco tonight.'
