Aux Slot Abuse? Old Eq?

Kaine says, 'I was wondering how those aux slots were abused - could you tell us the actual details?'

Kaine says, 'without names of course'

LadyAce says, 'someone found the bug and stocked up without reporting it.'

Kaine says, 'what was the item/bug?'

Carolyn says, 'there's always someone who'll do something like that.'

Carolyn nods solemnly.

Spanish-Flea says, 'extra ac from the items?'

LadyAce says, 'I'd rather not say the item, but it was +stat'

Kaige says, 'a couple items that hadn't been in AUX slots, got changed to AUX slots and the builder/s didn't notice that they had stats on them which AUX items aren't supposed to have... hence MUCHO free stats essentially since you can have up to 4 aux items at one time.'

Spanish-Flea whistles appreciatively.

Quinn whistles appreciatively.

Kaine says, 'which stat was it?'

Spanish-Flea laughs.

Kaige says, 'well not free/free... but free as in more than others would have guessed possible'

Kaige says, 'I don't recall'

Kaige says, 'it was a couple of different things'

Spanish-Flea says, 'so uhhh, I just gotta complain about ooc requirements'

LadyAce says, 'it's designed to keep people from using ooc to gain advantage with their char -- like preventing death from bleeding or keeping a spell from wearing off'

Sandra says, 'I used to go ooc with 1hp so I wouldn't die until someone brought me a bandage :P'

Sandra stares off into space.

Spanish-Flea says, 'I find it kind of annoying when I have to rent of effects to get into ooc, and I heard rumors you were gonna make effects non rentable, making ooc a pain in the arse to get to'

Sandra says, 'it's easy to get rid of them. There's several ways in game to do so'

Kaige says, 'it's going to be even more annoying then when affects start saving over renting... so learn how to deal with the bad ones in-game.'

Spanish-Flea says, 'well I can come ooc strengthed and bless'

Spanish-Flea says, 'and armor if I remember'

Huginn says, 'but not ring of fire, detect invis etc'

Sandra says, 'those are minor bonuses compared to fly (where you can save yourself from drowning), etc'

Cheyla says, 'strength is required, really...'

Kaige says, 'strength is because some characters actually need it to take a step'

Spanish-Flea says, 'I just dont see why its such a huge deal, and I find it especially unfair that most of the time it notes my characters are enabled and basically says 'not happening''

Sandra says, 'enabled? It just says you can't go ooc because of whatever spell you have on. But not to the world'

Spanish-Flea says, 'like here's the thing, I can dispel myself ingame but it's really annoying'

Carolyn says, 'It's unfortunate that people will exploit ways to cheat, because then it inconveniences the honest players when things have to be changed to prevent it. But the imms are trying to keep things fair for everyone.'

Kaige says, 'I've said for years that it'd probably be better to have the ooc only accessible from the menu... but it's a lot of work for little actual gain'

General Suggestions/Questions

o Why is there a dolphin in the Ganges? There aren't dolphins in fresh water.

The Ganges dolphin is in fact a (fresh water) river dolphin and named for the Ganges River.

o It bothers me a bit that even men have "witch" as posttitle. Wouldn't warlock be more correct? ;)

Sandra says the term "witch" was applied equally without discrimination to men and women suspected of practicing witchcraft in 17th Century Salem.

o You hear the resonant chiming of bells calling the monks to nones. What's nones?

In the monasteries during the Middle Ages, they observed the daily office (officium is a Latin word meaning "service"). The daily office was comprised of eights services a day. The first one, Matins, began at dawn. Throughout the day, seven more services were held: Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, Nones, Vespers, and finally Compline, the last service observed before bedtime.

o African Savanna -- 'antelope' seems to be a keyword for wildebeests: 'backstab antelope' 'You rush up behind a wildebeest and sink an athame in her back.'

o Here is a thought on the slave quest thing in Zanzibar, I love how now when you give the title to the slave your align turns good, makes sense, but the trade off is askew, ie buy a slave loose 200 align or turn toward evil, free a slave, get 200 back toward good. it would make more sense logistic wise if you got slighly more back for freeing the slave, then the quest can be used both ways, ie to turn toward evil or good. It would not have to be much but something like buying a slave -200 align, giving the slave the title, +250 or 300 align.

You are helping the slave by freeing them, but you are still supporting the slave trade by purchasing them in the first place.

o I find this new consider message quite annoying. mostly because it is longer than it needs to be. Of course it just a matter of adapting, but why not include the "your first impression" part in the helpfile.

It's longer than it currently HAS to be because it's eventually going to have more info than just the first impression. Kaige was just unable and unsure if she could give more information about the mob and if it was assisted by other mobs without lagging the mud to a standstill. That part got left in when she had to fix something else in the same file.

o Can we take baths in our own bath tubs in our own houses?

Houses unfortunately don't save with room ACTS nor do objects themselves have a functioning acts sytem of their own yet. Until then, you will have to use any of the number of public facilities. If you have ideas for where more ways to do this could be added, please use the IDEA channel.

o Weather shouldn't change every tick. It should last longer. And it shouldn't go from drastic to mild in an instant either. In other words, our weather code could use some work.

It's most likely the settings for how likely it is to change on each weather type than the underlying code. So specific areas where this is a problem would be better to report via the bug channel.

o I am not sure that this effect was to be one that was taken off when you rent, but summon lag does.. I saw a mage use it a few time in the stag, and I just tested it when my angel left, and the summon lag left when I re entered just seconds later...(to finish his last one)

This along with all other affects are slated to be saving over rent in the near future. Don't count on this remaining a "feature" for long.

o Give us an orange color? pls pls PLS? To clarify, previous idea was regarding an orange color option for text.

The ANSI and RAW color codes sent by the mud and interpreted by your client are defined by an outside standard. Some clients (like on Macs) will allow you to set the existing color codes to whatever color you like.

o The help files for areas should state which immortal wrote it and which currently maintains it, so we know who to email :)

This information (along with much more) is supplied with the areainfo command. Older players may recognize it as the AREAS command. If you do AREAINFO keyword, you will often get specific information about that area along these lines.

o In help updates, it says that the current immortal structure was put in in May 96. It wasn't, it was put in at the same time Sandra and Sabella became immorts.

LTv3n8 May 22nd, 1996: New immort Structure was announced.
LTv3n9 July 30th, 1996: New Imms announced including Sandra and Sabella.
So, yeah, those two events were very close.
