On Housing, and the Atmosphere

Hi all, I wanted to talk a little bit about what I think has happened to Legend over the last four months or so since the housing install. We worried (imms and morts) when the package went in, that there would be some strain on the atmosphere in terms of "self-focus" or "money-grubbing" for lack of a better word. As expected, this happened. While housing has tons and tons of great benefits to the mud as a whole, it does take some getting used to. I think we are coming to the end of that "reaction" or "slump" and I'm very glad to see you all noticing what's happening, and working to fight against it. I very much believe in the community we have currently -- we have awesome, friendly, helpful players, who lately haven't necessarily been acting like it. Talking about some past golden era, deriding the level of helpfulness, etc. can really just contribute to this problem. When nice helpful people hear nothing from all the other nice helpful people about how unhelpful everyone is, we all bring each other down. I am glad to see that we're bouncing out of this, a bit rockily perhaps, but moving out of it. Once again, you're proving to me that we have the best players on the planet, and even when you are not appreciating each other as well as you might, there will always be a recovery. Love to all, LadyAce

As an example (and I hope you'll all append with your thoughts and examples), take coupon prices. Remember when housing went in and there was something of a panic over gold and money, coupons were being sold at 20-50k by over-anxious sellers? Reminds me of the stock market, really. Lately coupons have been commanding much higher prices, 200k etc. Some people like the housing feature and the various costs that go with it, some people don't like it, and that's just fine -- create mages aren't everyone's idea of fun, pk isn't everyone's idea of fun, recalltag isn't everyone's idea of fun. I sincerely hope that the lesson of coupons (which was so publically articulated, being visible on auction daily) will remind you all to take a long-term view when you can, not panic over changes as they come. Changes and new code packages and all kinds of new developments are on the horizon. I predict that we'll stay in a reasonably steady state for a while yet, but don't overlook the underlying motion which is necessary for us to make the large "package" leaps. -LA

Your wish is my command I didn't buy a house. I wanted a house in Klein I'm still waiting (It's coming I hear) I could satisfy my housing lust with another character I suppose..I mean he can get the money to start one. But since I don't play that often..I'd get forclosed on So that's that. As for the coupon stuff... I noticed the dip in prices for a time, but it's back up there oldbie players value coupons too much, I think to sell them at bottom out prices. Besides, in my opinion coupons should be given, not sold. I certainly don't have anything strung, since I happen to give coupons away. Lets see... I got a mundane for 50k once and gave it to someone to string some "tight black pants" over her leggings. I used a coupon I got from writing my story in the LT to string the item in question. And I somehow got another coupon I gave away so the person could have their DAMN big axe again :) (bunnylover) I gave out a WHOLE bunch of prize strings to various people. Ofcourse they were obtained from rather shady means -halo- SHHH!!! -waits for a warning for taking advantage of a bug- where was I? I forget. Anyway, I like housing and eventually I'll get one in Klein somewhere near my adopted Dad, Roland. (He raised me, you know) Just as sooon as I get the money and it goes in...
