Lesser of two evils

One of the things I have noticed in many prior posts about game balance concerns relating to pkill is that we as immorts (and I in specific, in a few cases) do not play 'active enough' pkillers to know 'what's going on.' Some immorts do, but others do not. I will tell you my reasons, and it boils down to a lesser of two evils.

My view and my understanding of the game propel me to make decisions that are often wide sweeping. I listen to complaints, I listen to as many folks who wish to speak up as I can, and base my decisions partially off that, and partially off my understanding and work with game design on many levels. Do I get a chance to play? Not as much as I would sometimes like, but enough to know what works and what doesn't. Do I pkill? Rarely, if ever. Imms have a bit stricter code for Rp and pkill than the general populace, something I do not have a great deal of time to devote myself to doing. Therefore I am left being accused of ignorance in making certain decisions.

On the other hand, I have had times when I have had active pkillers. Even though the same methods for evaluating change are employed the accusations are a bit more jagged. Instead of ignorance, not knowing what's "really" going on, the finger is pointed at me for making changes based on my experience, based on the benefit of my character(s) or based on my clan or whatnot. Irregardless of who actually makes the change, why it was made, or if it is rationalized and explained until all of us are blue in the face, the perception of that change being made for our own benefit is quite a real feeling amongst some, sometimes amongst many.

I have chosen the lesser of two evils. I have chosen the accusations of ignorance over the accusations of cheating and benefitting my own character.

That is based on the assumption that it is indeed the char type you are playing that needs change. Maybe that is so, maybe it isn't. It is much easier, in my opinion, to convince someone who wants to change things to benefit their own chars than it is to convince someone who is ignorant.

And face it, no matter what you do, unless you have a character that is being downgraded, you will be accused of trying to benefit your character by those who won't be reasonable in the first place. It all comes down to how you handle player opinions and inputs, and if you can't deal with the fact that some of the players only see things in the narrowest of contexts, no matter how you chose to deal with a problem, you will always be frustrated.
