Okay just a few ideas on a shield that could be really nifty.
They would work best if the shield had spikes, thus the 'spiked
shield'.
Firstly, my thought was a shield that when you were attacked
it had a chance to inflict damage upon the person who dealt it.
Maybe tie this in with block, maybe have it work better with
claw/hit kind of attacks. Considering you cant hit the spikes
with a weapon, or it would be harder to impale your hand on them.
The damage wouldnt be that much, and it wouldnt go off that frequently
so have it a +2-3 stat item with decent armour.
Secondly: Weapon breaker.
A shield that aims to damage your opponent's weapon. Again when
you hit a shield of this kind it is more likely that your sword
is going to bust than hitting armour etc.
Disarmer.
FINIALLY a reason to have the skill 'draw'. If there were shields/other
items in the game that disarmed an opponent. This could be a great thing.
Just like in real life, you might actually drop your weapon, or have it
pulled out of your hands. This could make PK interesting, and mob kill
also would have a little more spice in it. Espicially when versing mobs
with the item/s that can disarm.
Damage:
Something simple. An attack with average of extremely or hard. A few +stat
but nothing too fancy.
REALLY SIMPLE:
A spiked shield would obviously inflict damage. So have a shield that
increases your dam. ie a +dam shield. Like I said REALLY simple.
Well just a few ideas. Personally I think the first three would be
interesting and if possible I wouldnt mind testing them out. But as usual
I doubt if any of them will be implemented.

i'd like to see a skill disarm :P but it would require a slashing wpn
perhaps, and have high requirements like 80 con/str/dex or something
lol

I really like the spiked shield idea. it could work similar to wall of thorns or
thorns or ring of fire but really really toned down, have no stats but good
good ac. that would be a very neat item for someone like a fighter who
does not have the spells to duplicate it handy.
