My take on it all

I see the problem with people accepting you, killing you, and running away to reject before you can return the "favor". More so in groups where they can endanger the whole group by killing only one person whom the group then cannot defend. I have no great solution up my sleeve to either. I am personally in favor of raising the number of ticks before you can reject. This would at least make life a little more complicated for those who like to hit and run, so to speak. They'd at least have to sit around in the open longer before they could run. It's not exactly a perfect deal, but I'm inclined to think that it would help a bit. I realize the inconvenience of it as regards going OOC or renting in houses, but heck, we can survive those things. On the concept of 'rpok' -- in my experience it's called gagchannel. Anyhows, here's a joke for you hardcore pkillers who may know me: I've been accused a few times of attempting to force role-play to end with pkill, or to force people not interested in pkill to do so anyway. Write me right up there on the harassment list with the rest of you meanies. In the old days, non-pkillers had to come up with RP ways to solve conflict. Pkok can't render those ways completely invalid now, can it? Or has it? Yes, it's true that we have many 'teenies' playing here. Well, we do. The internet is full of teenagers. Us older people just have to live with it. I'm all in agreement that this is just a game, but it still inspires a lot of emotion in people, and somehow, we have to make room for all of us. I don't like every aspect of this game. I can endure, though. What I really don't understand is the little star in AA. I don't get it. I'd never go AA just because of it. It turns the who list into a 'shopping list' -- let's see, that, that, and that guy are AA, let me go jump them, in alphabetical order. But the really weird thing is, since pkok went in, just about the only guy who's tried to jump me is Stain. I'm not saying that I'm secretly accepting-almost-all. Far from. I'm just wondering if there aren't a lot of people out there who are. I'm also wondering if I'm the only one who tends to accept clans, not people. But as it is, I was around for 2 years and a half before pkok, and I was enabled, and I'd like to state that while I was occasionally jumped at inconvenient times, I was never multi'd or looted. Not to say that this doesn't happen. It does. More to say, what goes around comes around. Do unto others, and so forth. This does not make you immune to every idiot out there, but it seriously reduces the chances of others thinking of you as one, and thus a viable target for these practices. The best way to learn pkill is, and has always been, learning by running -- no, not to hide, but to come back and get even! Do I miss the occasional being jumped? Yep. Am I going to go accept all and have a freaky little star by my name to get it? No. There IS a group of people here that I don't wish to play with. They annoy the hell out of me, just as I'm sure that my RP and whatnot seems pretty damn idiotic to them. And with that, I will conclude this morning's pro-coffee rant. Marcel Alexander, Esquire.

From: Sallah Friday, March 23 2001, 05:25AM I think it's great that pkok is working just fine for you. But you fail to address the fact that there are a bunch of people who are looking for an option that caters to their style of pk as much as pkok caters to yours, and not only does that option not exist for them presently, but they believe their pleas are being ignored. And since most of the appends on the subject above have been along the lines of 'Yes there is a problem, but I don't know what to do about it,' I can see what they mean. Honestly, most of the people who bother to read this board are the responsible ones with a genuine care toward game mechanics and environ- ment. The real perpetrators, the ones who raise a big stink when they lose and who multi, loot, reject after killing, and generally make pk a bad experience, are probably not reading this board. So all of these wonderful opinions are not reaching the ones who are causing the problem. Maybe we should do more as players to correct this kind of behavior as it happens, instead of venting on this board? And yes, I mean the so-called hardcore guys who pkill responsibly. If you see some guy giving pkillers a bad rep by doing this stuff, come down on them. The immortals have made it pretty clear that it's on our shoulders to police ourselves, so unless we do just that, it's unlikely that they will ever be sympathetic to the desire for an "old pk" option. From: Ryan Friday, March 23 2001, 02:23PM Well now, I'm sure if you know me, or know of me, you are thinking 'What would he have to say about Pkilling?' And, of course, that is a warrented question, To put it mildly, for my own self asteem, I am not a success -ful pkiller, not in this form and up until now, not in any other. However, I think that this is a pretty large arguement, and that it affects and will affect even the most casual of pkillers. Just to get it out of the way: Yes, I am enabled. Have I ever used it? Twice. Once in Elisa's mudwrestling tourney (-cheer Elisa-, wherever she is) And once with a friend, with no weapons, just for laughs. I have never found an RP reason to kill someone... it may sound boring but 'Ryan' is just plain a peaceful guy. Do I think pkok was a good idea? Absolutely. Why? Cause it gives RPers another tool to RP, which is what makes this place a game I want to play. Do I think there is a problem with it? Obviously: if this many people are 'piss ed' (for lack of a better, more flowery word) There is obviously something wrong. Do I have a solution? No, but I think that almost everyone here has good ideas, and I think that a solution could be reached between us. A lot of very good points have been brought up on this very board. Here is the whole reason for this ramble: I hear of people getting fed up and threatening to leave. I can't think of a single player that I wish to leave this place for good, and I only hope to encourage people to continue to prod/hope/pester/brainstorm until Legend has a system that works for all. Last time I checked the events list, I seem to remember there being a Pkill discussion thing coming up. I hope that many of these follow, until all are happy. That was mostly rambling, and I apologize for you having wasted time reading it, but one can only read so many posts without wanting to try to help. -Ryan's player.

From: Cyrnon Saturday, March 24 2001, 12:48PM It's not true to say that Legend is "just a game." Certainly parts of it are, but there are other aspects which make Legend more than a game. The problem is that many players view it from one extreme or the other. Also, as Marcel said, people are emtionally charged. Players put hundreds of hours into their characters. Even if the loss from dying can be recovered in tens of minutes, it often feels like an attack on the player's _whole_ effort; not just the recent accomplishments of that particular character. It would be better if players like this would not become so wound up in the lives of their creations. On the other side are two variations of an extreme, those who can't grasp the concrete feelings of others even when those feelings are slammed in their face. The second recognizes the emotions and doesn't care or even worse manipulates the feelings of others for their own amusement. For them, everything is just a game. It would be nice if people like this had more empathy or at least more respect for those around them. Cyrnon

From: Sabu Sunday, March 25 2001, 07:27PM Just wanted to comment real fast like about this post and the next post about player involvment. Most know me, and know i haven't been an angel nor for that matter a terrible person. I have always preached for peacefull endings in all sorts of pk situations that i have seen personally. Be it a pker of mine or most recently a non-pker. Sometimes getting down on some pkers dont really need to fall to more violence in doing so. I found myself talking with a few pkers and reasoning with them on their actions then all was well again. So for all you non-pkers out there that can keep cool heads these days, dont feel useless.. you can also help with messy situations involving pkers getting to the point where their violence seems pointless, but they continue anyway. We need to make small steps towards getting things back to the way everyone would like it to be. It could be a long process yes, but dont give up. Keep trying, keep compromising, and for the good of pk please set good examples as best you can. You can still be evil without multies and looting and group . err jumping groups that would indanger non-enables. -shrug- just my thoughts, I look forward to trying to get back into pk, but after seeing lots of silly fighting, I'm sure I would never be as hardcore as I once was.
