Over the last 2 days, I've been trying to keep track of all combat
simply because I was curious. I'm sure someone out there has done this
before, but I just missed it or they never came forward. Anyway, from
the data that I have collected, I think I can come to several reasonable
conclusions. If the data and conclusions presented here are a bit too
close to home, feel free to remove it. I hope everyone can get some
useful information out of this.
Statistics over the last 2 days:
Hitrate: 1132 hits landed out of 1337 total hits.
That comes to about 267 rounds of combat.
Hit % = 84.67%
Average # of rounds per mob = 5.34
Damage: Caps Rips Dec Obl Dem Pul Mas Ext_Hard hard bar
6 46 132 22 12 4 0 2 4 2
2.6% 20% 57% 9.6% 5.2% 1.7% 0% 0.8% 1.7% 0.8%
-killing blows were not counted.
-% may not add up due to rounding.
Skills: Bash Kick Warcry Headbutt Tumble Rage
18/26 18/23 2/3/6/57 4/8 2 32
-Headbutt - No staggering headbutts, I staggered self once.
-Warcry - 2 rages, 3 flees, 6 paras, 57 tries.
Average XP / Mob = 35k. -Mobs less than 1k xp counted as 0.
Number of mobs = 50
Vital Stats:
Hometown - Klein
98 str, 75con, 100dex.
33 hitroll, 43 damroll.
I used an old Silver Serrated Sword which swings 4-5 times a rnd
There were a few bunnies and sidhes in the count, but other than that
the mobs consisted of boston/salem xp mobs and klein xp mobs. I could
not found any surgeons who wanted to run except Neeva so th sample size
is relatively small. I also didn't go on SL, PD, AT (always missed the
runs) and I'm sure the statistics would change there too.
Contrary to my preconceptions, I saw that I hardly every 'barely slashes
'. In fact even when I'm sitting down most of the time I decimate.
Also note that I used bash 26 times and was successful 18 times and used
rage more than half of the time. That improved my hit ratio and damage.
Another thing I noticed was with just 33 hitroll and 100dex, i was
hitting close to 85% of the time. Originally I had thought I was hitting
much lower, about 75% of the time and 85 would be the theoretical
maximum, but it looks now as though 90-95% could be achieved with more
tweaking and more old eq :P. Granted it really depends on who or what
kind of mobs you are hitting, but I think it is possible to achieve a 90%
hit rat overall over the long haul (ie. tens of thousands of rounds
over mobs of varying difficulty.).
I don't know what useful conclusions I can draw from skill success and
failures with the exception of warcry. That will be further explained in
the append.
I should also say that it is pretty much impossible for me to damcap
without a skill. So it may look like the hit distribution is sort
of a bell curve, but I'm not really sure, there are too many other
variables around. The massacre damage type is the one that really bugs
me. More on that in the append.
I kept track of all these stats via triggers and variables. It was
written in a fairly obscure client call Mud Master. It is for DOS,
because it reminds me of the old days instead of these new fancy buttons
and things for windows :P. If anyone wants a copy of the triggers, email
me at [email protected] and I'd be happy to send you a copy. The
file is pretty self explanatory. Anyone who've programmed triggers
before would know how to set it up. It's just about pattern matching and
I've done most of the work for you already :P.
In the next append, you'll see some statistics about my alt. Because he
is a create mage, I was able to get more than 800 rounds of data.

Statistics over the last 2 days:
Hitrate: 6,951 hits landed out of 10,288 total hits.
That comes to about 833 rounds of combat.
Hit % = 67.56%
Average # of rounds per mob = 9.57

-% may not add up due to rounding.
Skills: Bash Kick Warcry Headbutt Tumble Rage
0/2 31/50 6/19/35/230 124/207 8 0
-Headbutt - 25 staggering headbutts, I staggered self 10 times.
-Warcry - 6 rages, 19 flees, 35 para, 230 tries.
- Sucess rate = 26.09%
Average XP / Mob = 38.k. -Mobs less than 1k xp counted as 0.
Number of mobs = 87
Vital Stats:
Hometown: Tara
55str, 100con, 75dex
15hitroll, 8damroll
I use a light brahman
So again, I went with the Salem/Boston/Klein XP mobs. A few bunnies here
and there to lwoer the avg xp/mob. Also went on a doomed SL run.
Now given my stats, I was surprised that 'You crush .' was only
2.4%. The distribution of damage is for the msot part, pretty normal
looking with the average around demolish. But the massacre damage
message is unuslaly low which leads me to believe that I have placed it
wrong. Let me know where you think it should be. Also crush extremely
hard was 17%! I don't know what accounts for this, I think my hitroll
and dex is just too low. However, it does seem out of place. Even if I
do fail my skills, it shouldn't fail that badly. I fail bashes with West
and the low order of the damage aren't that high of a percentage. My
guess is it's because of my low damroll and hitroll combined.
On a positive note, I saw the correlation with Warcry. It appears to
follow the ratio of 1:4:8:50. The last ration I'm not sure of, 50 looks
like a weird number. It would make more sense if its 40. Anyway, it
looks like 1 out of every 5 times or so, something good will happen when
you warcry. Either it's para or it's flee, I find it useful against mobs.
1 out of every 50 times, the mob will rage (2%)
1 out of every 12.5 times, the mob will flee (8%)
1 out of every 6.5 times, the mob will para (15%)
At one point, it was 10% that the mob will flee and 20% that the mob will
para. It then went down, not sure if it's just a flux.
Back to the hit ratio. I think it is partly because I am using a light
weapon which swings up to 12 times a round that causes the distribution
to spread out so widely. I'm still not sure what kind of conclusions I
can draw from this other than the obvoius. If anyone have any insights,
I'd love to hear it.
So that concludes it. I hope everyone found something useful. If you'd
like to track your data, I'd love to hear what kind of results you get
for other character types.

Bleh, lost connection.
Anyway, I've been having trouble with my mail server. I can't
receive mail, but I can send ok, so if anyone wants the triggers
and I haven't sent them, just mudmail me with your addr.
I went overboard this weekend and downloaded zMud. Its now a set
of triggers that interacts with the DB built into zMud. I have
version 6.16, I don't know what versions it's compatible with.
Basically, you can now keep track of most of the stats listed
with every mob you ever hit via the database. I think also
fixed a few bugs with the triggers, so far everything looks
like it's working with a few quirks.

I am almost to the point where I can offer up my set of triggers for users
of zmud 3.62. Contact me if interested. (no database unfortunately)
